It’s so easy to overlook the small details that make up the world. I make it an effort to observe and document my surroundings as much as possible and my obsession with color and my interest in photography has lead me to explore my office by color. Every day, it seems my life is made up of the same mixture of colors and textures but when I began to look a little closer, a whole new spectrum of shades began to emerge. Using Hisptamatic for iPhone as my tool and my office as my canvas, I’ve uncovered a colorful world of Odopod.

May 7th has come and gone and so I have aged another year. Another birthday filled with greetings, cards and dinner with pals. Filled with Facebook hellos, tweets and hugs. Filled with slices of cake, drinks and presents. Of course, I’ve tracked all of these wonderful things with Daytum, thus visualizing all the bits that made this year’s birthday so wonderful. See the page on Daytum.

I love to organize anything I can get my hands on by color. Color order always makes the world feel so right. Here’s what color organization looks like on my iPhone. Awesome, right?

The other day I purchased a Polaroid Jacket and instantly fell in love with it. It fits perfectly and is a wonderful representation of my interests in photography, color and design. It got me thinking about other physical objects that I own and love. So, here is where I pay tribute to my favorite things in the physical world.

My friends and I watch a movie together every Sunday night. Each week, a different host picks a movie and asks the guests to bring a food related to the film. When everyone arrives, we set up the food items in a nice little arrangement and snap a photo. It all began on April 13, 2008 and continues to occur weekly to this day. The members of Movie Night are managed through Facebook where there is also a complete archive of every event. As of this post we’ve seen 71 movies!

Every time I move out of an apartment, I make it a practice to take a photo of the outside/door so that I have a personal catalog of all the places I have ever lived. Since I have already moved quite a bit, I have a nice collection of apartments from Philadelphia, New York and now San Francisco.

At the dawn of every new year, I take all my Flickr photos from the previous year and produce book of photos. I started doing it in 2007 and have continued every year since. I love having something physical to hold and to look at in addition to all the digital things I’ve collected and created. The original idea came from a similar practice of selecting the best moments of the year – one per month - and creating a “year in review” set. These images represent 2009.

I’m constantly looking for sources of inspiration and one resource that will never fail is TED. As such, I started to make it a daily practice to do something good for myself both in mind and body each morning. Here’s a running list of my TED with Breakfast log.

May 7th is my birthday. In honor of this extraordinary event in history, I did what I do best, track events from the day. This go around, I used Daytum as my tool to document various greetings, gifts and surprises that I encountered from sunrise to sunset as I celebrated this 27th year on Earth.

As a photographic, creative and documentation exercise, I’ve photographed 18 random objects that were about in my bedroom the night of February 7th 2009. I chose items that represented myself at the time and shot them against brightly colored pieces of construction paper. I do love color, after all. The reason for the number 18 was simply because I would be posting them to Flickr, and my settings display 18 medium sized images on my initial page.

I’ve created a number of systems over several years to help me track my health and fitness data over time. So far, this latest version has been the most appealing and fun to use. I’ve created this database using FileMaker to observe my nutrition patterns and physical activities and to see how things like mood, thoughts and creativity are affected by my diet. I find systems like this one to be the most successful tools when I am working toward a healthier, more fit lifestyle.

For quite a while I thought it would be an interesting exercise to document the first thing I heard every day when I woke up and the last thing I heard before I went to sleep. I was hoping to uncover some interesting surprises and patterns about my life and observe the types of people and encounters that made up my day. I began tweeting these experiences on the account @firstheardlast. Although it was a lot of fun logging these moments, it became fairly hard to keep up with so I eventually let it die. I’d like to pick up on this again soon.

I started a tracking exercise recently where I took the same photo each day of specific elements of my life: my face, my outift, my left hand, the best part of my day, the sky, the outside of my living space, the view from my office, my bed, my home desk, and my shoes. This is just a sample of four days from the experiment that lasted just under a month. I managed all the data in a FileMaker Database that also tracked other micro behaviors in my life. It was very difficult to sustain.
