<p>In the kind of non-creepy way, I like to watch people. I like to write about watching people. In one blog, I write about watching (reads stalking) boys that interest me and my co-author Kristen. Visit the <a href="http://www.theadorablestalker.com">Adorable Stalkers</a> for that.</p>
<p>In this new blog, I write about watching people on the busses of San Francisco. These character sketches capture moments almost always forgotten while giving me the opportunity to practice writing. The process is simple. I write the post and hand it off to <a href="http://www.linzibergmann.com/"> Linzi Bergmann</a> who then interprets the character through her own style of illustration.</p>
<p>And there you have it. I hope you like it! </p>

<p>It&#8217;s so easy to overlook the small details that make up the world. I make it an effort to observe and document my surroundings as much as possible and my obsession with color and my interest in photography has lead me to explore my office by color. Every day, it seems my life is made up of the same mixture of colors and textures but when I began to look a little closer, a whole new spectrum of shades began to emerge. Using <a href="http://hipstamaticapp.com/">Hisptamatic</a> for iPhone as my tool and my office as my canvas, I&#8217;ve uncovered a colorful world of Odopod.</p>

<p>The other day I purchased a Polaroid Jacket and instantly fell in love with it. It fits perfectly and is a wonderful representation of my interests in photography, color and design. It got me thinking about other physical objects that I own and love. So, here is where I pay tribute to my favorite things in the physical world.</p>

Recap:

Tonight, we welcomed two new guests into the movie night group and sadly missed out on some old favorites who chose to do &quot;better&quot; things on this Sunday evening (ahem, Kristen). But tonight was a major milestone for we movie nighters, as it marked our one year anniversary of the event. So we've had some inconsistencies. So we've had some bad movies. But somehow, we made it through one year of social cinema enjoyment.

"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3324/3437373224_30dba6eb9a_s.jpg" width="75" height="75" alt="movie night 31" /></a> <a class="tt-flickr tt-flickr-Square" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/allisonmccarthy/3416594833/" rel="album-72157604649242940" id="photo-3416594833" title="movie night 30 - film: gattaca
host: aqm
food theme: genetically inferior foods with heart (aka, foods that are stuffed)

The Recap:

It's been a over a month since last movie night and we've all been craving film, cookies, and a giant puff pastry so it appears. Despite Sam's awkwardly early arrival, and a mid-movie interruption from a delivery guy (chris, avoid the swingers joke), the night went on flawlessly.

Reviews:

- AQM: if you're like me, it's been a long ass time since you've seen this film. guess what? it's just like you remember - fucking awesome.
"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3636/3416594833_b4fe2d24a1_s.jpg" width="75" height="75" alt="movie night 30" /></a> <a class="tt-flickr tt-flickr-Square" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/allisonmccarthy/3247230843/" rel="album-72157604649242940" id="photo-3247230843" title="movie night 28 - film: cool hand luke
honorary host: gwinn
food theme: &quot;cool&quot;

-The Recap-

Tonight marked the first induction of an honorary host into the mix and what a warm welcome it was. gwinn showed great hosting promise despite the incredibly late arrival of one aqm, the bailing of emily and kristen, and the fact that we abandoned the movie entirely for good food, good wine and great conversation.

- Superlatives -

Hands down the best food theme ever: Hint O'Mint Newman-O's.

- Reviews -

AQM: Although disappointed that one alternate adventure did not take place, i would call this the most enjoyable non-movie, movie night ever.

Chris:

host: big knee berry
food: french

-The Recap-

A cozy little group made movie night 26 quite a success though we were saddened by our last minute no shows. Although a potentially disastrous &quot;the dvd may not play&quot; warning came with the rental, we were delighted when the movie concluded, beautifully without fail. As an added treat, we got it for free! Take that suckers!

-The Reviews- (coming soon!)

kristen - The City of Lost Children does not seem aptly titled. I think it should be called The City of Ex Carnies. It was not my favorite film. I think the storyline needed more development. It didn't match my expectations after Delicatessen. Kudos to the twins for being creepy.

aqm - i have a sneaking suspicion that one does not get everything this movie has to offer by a single viewing. regardless, i was simultaneously delighted and uncomfortable with the heroism and evil throughout the film.

chris - A dark carnival where children's dreams (nightmares?) are stolen by a man who only wants to dream. A bit cartoonish at times, but that is part of it’s charm. Ron Perlman plays a great hero and big brother/father figure.

dayton - A fantastic, dark vision of a future of tough, resiliant children tormented by blind and miserable adults. The only happy adults are clones with sleeping sickness.
Not the most clear of plot lines, and they don't bother to explain much why, but, as far as films go, it's a hell of a looker."><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3433/3209176492_ae8121c6b8_s.jpg" width="75" height="75" alt="movie night 26" /></a> <a class="tt-flickr tt-flickr-Square" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/allisonmccarthy/3191142457/" rel="album-72157604649242940" id="photo-3191142457" title="movie night 25 - film: singles

-The Racap-

After quite a long hiatus, we welcomed movie night back into our lives with a special showing of singles. singles, as we all know, has been at the top of kristen's wish list since the beginning of movie night and after many, many, many failed attempts to watch this film, we finally were able to make it happen.

though no new guests joined the ranks of movie night, i'd say it was one of the most enjoyable and goofy affairs we've had to date. my guess? most of us brought booze.

-Inspirations from Dayton -
-find flourescent yellow, pink, and green matching cycling outfit.
-make a video dating video where I fly in the sky.  &quot;I'm...very....LONLEY....&quot;
-dust off my old grunge rock records, and remember how much they rock.

-Reviews- (coming soon)

Kristen: Finally! It's hard to identify specifically why I adore this film so much but I am pretty sure it's because Singles highlights how retarded we all act and think when we are in love - or think we are. It may also have something to do with the fact that Eddie Vedder makes a cameo. Anyhow, may your standards never be lowered to Gesundheit.

Sam:

AQM: An accurate depiction of how delightfully messy life can be. And, i learned that the department of transportation always has traffic signs and lights randomly about the office space.

Chris: A movie about relationships with garage door openers, very technical.

Dayton: People. Live. Interact. Look for love, but just find other people. It's reason to laugh, cry, become bewildered, and then laugh again. A fantastic, realistic look at how we look for love in our modern age. Did I mention that I was cracking up?

Emily:

-The Racap-

Despite Kristen's very cute efforts to convince everyone to change to film, the group went with A Scanner Darkly over A Miracle on 34th Street, preventing Movie Night 24 from going Christmas. The group was large, one of the biggest showings we have ever had, welcoming three new guests to the fold. We laughed, we were attacked by an excitable pup, and we most importantly, we learned that drugs are bad and everyone is addicted to wine and chocolate.

-Reviews-

Kristen: despite my attempts to mutiny and show a christmas film we were forced to watch a cartoon with keanu reeves and winona ryder. robert downey junior and woody harrelson made the film bearable. sidenote: i don't understand why people think that a movie will be better or more artsy if the characters are made into cartoons. i like real people. let disney and pixar do cartoons. nemo is excellent. A Scanner Darkly confused me. all i know is drugs are bad. the best part was the end where the writer dedicated the film to people who lost their lives and minds to drugs. it made me sad. the rest of the film was too confusing for me.

Dan Linksy: As I wandered back into my waking life, I realized this film left me nothing but dazed and confused.

AQM: My mind wondered quite a bit. especially when wrigley, our resident pup, weaseled his way under the coffee table and made a chew toy out of my leg.

Mike: Well, I can say that I liked how it looked. I read a review that said it was a faithful adaptation of the book -- and that it was a shame the book was one of Dick's least cinematic. I simply didn't get sucked into the story on the screen.

Dayton:drugs make for funny, sad people, and the future of this world is fucked.
Mankind only perpetuates their sorry state...The funniest depressing movie I've seen in a while.

Susanna: This was a strange movie. I'm not sure if I got it, but Keanu Reeves is hot even in animation.

Emily: Emily doesn't review, but my guess is that she didn't like it very much.

Recap.
Wow. I goofed up with the movie selection. I meant to get Kind Hearts and Coronets (an actual British film), but they didn't have it at Hollywood and I was too slow on the Netflix. I randomly picked this movie out because i felt like a comedy and Woody Allen seemed to be right. Let me tell you, the movie(?) was weird."><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3188/3060362246_61ceed69ff_s.jpg" width="75" height="75" alt="movie night 23" /></a> <a class="tt-flickr tt-flickr-Square" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/allisonmccarthy/3048452358/" rel="album-72157604649242940" id="photo-3048452358" title="movie night 22 - film: you and me and everyone we know

The Recap

It was a night of firsts in the land of movie night. the first time jade, sarah and sam made an appearance. the first time chris had an appropriate size table. the first time an anime film was chosen and the first time emily and kristen were both no shows. (wtf friends?). but this was far from the first time movie night was super enjoyable.

Superlatives

Best food themed item: sam's collection of snacks, particularly the every burgers.
Best character: hands down the enormous baby turned hamster carried around by a fly.
Second best character: the balls of soot.
Third best character: no face (despite jade's claim that he was evil)
Funniest Moment: all the commentary mystery science theatre 3000 style

THE RECAP

Tonight marked the first last minute location change in movie night history. Although, I thought I had it together by sending a mass text to all prospective guests, I neglected to copy the correct number of Sam from the wiki. He never go the message.

So we went on Samless and Daveless (though both responded yes), to watch the most uncomfortable 2 hour film anyone has ever seen. For me, tonight was about the reactions of everyone around me, and reactions I got.

SUPERLATIVES

-Most Frustrating Character: Georg, The less than heroic father figure
-Most Frustrating Moment: Talking to the camera, then rewinding
-Highest Moment of Intensity: Anna just sitting on the couch lifeless with the tv on for what seemed like an eternity
-Best Food Theme: Meat.

REVIEWS

Emily: Should have been titled: Funny Games (If you are retarded)

Kristen: This film gave me nightmares. I will think twice next time about answering the door to a man wearing short shorts. In all seriousness, the film did what is was supposed to do: move you. The characters were paralyzed for various reasons - physical and psychological - and their inaction was frustrating. It made you believe you would act differently. If it were you, you would be brave.

Chris: The most frustrating, passive-aggressive movie you will ever see. I recommend watching it at least once, if only for the experience.

aqm: I love this movie for its ability to really piss people off.

Dan: I suppose he was too pissed off to write a review.

The Recap:

Tonight was the night of new guests! What a strong showing... we had Geetika come by, Dan made an appearance, all to watch the charming and quite often weird little film: Logan's Run. Everyone came whimsically prepared by bringing foods to match the costumes of the movie. Awesome.

Superlatives:

Best Character: The Old man and his cats
Best Food Item: Geetika's Mango Lassi
Best Quote: Fish, and plankton. And sea greens, and protein from the sea. (over and over)
Weirdest Clothing Decision: To take off the clothes in ice cave.

Reviews:

aqm: seriously geeky. seriously good fun. my second viewing in 3 months.

Chris: A cheesy look into a possible dystopian future set to an awesome soundtrack.

Dan: Taken in with a bunch of friends, a bunch of beer, and a grain of salt, this is a fantastic paleofuturistic film full of inconsistencies, quotables, and some great Halloween costume ideas.

You should walk away with plenty to talk about – whether you prefer lengthy societal critiques and philosophical discussions about the post-apocalyptic future or if you just want to make fun of filmmaking in the 70’s.

Geetika: Fantastic! Highly recommended movie screening for everyone's 30th birthday - you know - to shut all those people who say &quot;it's all downhill now&quot;. But no, seriously - great film.

The Recap:
We had a full house tonight at aqm’s filled with the unexpected and delicious flavors to go along with the unexpected and fantasy world of the fall. Dayton joined us for the first time and surprised and delighted movie night guests with meated melons, ie - meatermelons. Mike joined us for a second time, our four regulars (plus Wrigley), held strong, and despite Dave’s no-show, our 18th movie night was truly spectacular.

Superlatives:
•Favorite food according to Kristen: Green tea chocolates
•Favorite quote according to Kristen: “all that fits on that little locket?”
•The night's big surprise: Meatermelons™.
•The night's big let-down according to Mike: I left my Trader Joe's bags.

Reviews:

•Kristen: Beautifully shot. beautifully casted. i'm not certain why this film was poorly received by critics. it was funny. there were half-naked men with swords and charles darwin's wardrobe was an unexpected delight.

•Allison: It fell a little bit short of my expectations. Sometimes the story didn’t do it for me, but I laughed. Most of the time I was visually pleased. The Cell was better.

•Mike: The little girl was adorable. The plot was corny. But the costumes: majestic. And the locations: other-worldly. Would have been better without dialogue and shot entirely in slow motion. Worth the watch, not worth the purchase.

•Chris: The Fall is an amazing, fantastical, and beautiful adventure through a fantasy land made up by a morphine addict who likes to trick little girls into getting him drugs. I highly recommend everyone should watch this movie at least once, for the visuals, the fantasy, and the harsh reality this poor girl is exposed to.

•Dayton: Imagination captured upon cinema. Good and evil pitched in battle, yet our protagonists suffer mortal, brutal, fates come the finale. Life is short, in the end we fall, but the ride throughout is a spectacle that is undeniably holy in its beauty.

•Emily: What Dayton said.

The Recap:

I did not think it would be happen, but we finally made it through all three episodes of The Lords and the Rings movies . Granted we lost Dave at the home stretch forcing another Hollywood Video rental, we still had an outstanding showing and an even more elaborate trilogy of delicious fare.

Let me also say that Chris chose a fantastic film to bring us all back out of Mount Doom and into the world of laughter, delight and hilarious one liners. It was also our first time at the house of Chris Berry which for some reason seems to attract ice cream because we our movie goers accidentally showed up with four unique flavors despite the “spicy food” theme.

I also apologize for the hiatus but it seems we’re back on track with the usual recaps, rants and reviews after some much needed heat from the movie night fans.

Superlatives:

•favorite line:
-&quot;Look up idiot in the dictionary. you know what you'll find?
-A picture of me?
-No! The definition of idiot, which you f-ing are!

•favorite food: the chocolate spicy ice cream. whatever that was. on the delicious madeline cookie. yummy!

Reviews:

•Kristen: The writing in this film is incredible. Shane Black did an amazing job adapting the screenplay. It made me fall in love with Robert Downey Jr. all over again. And who was the genius behind casting Val Kilmer? Who knew he was even funny? Hats off to Chris for an amazing pick.

•AQM: Val Kilmer was amazing in this film, simply amazing. I think my favorite part was when Robert Downey Jr. pees on the dead girl in his shower. Nice one.

•Chris: A definite sleeper, this movie is hilarious, witty and clever, all rolled into one crazy adventure. Robert Downey Jr. pulls no punches in breaking the fourth wall, but don’t fret, his narration really adds to this movie.

•Emily: robert downey junior should have won an oscar. and munson looked amazing!

The Recap:
Wow! Everyone really stepped up the Breakfast goodies tonight in honor of Lord of the Rings. Some of you may be scratching your head wondering why Breakfast foods were chosen. Well, on the very dangerous journey our Hobbit friends wanted to take a break to prepare Breakfast. The brave and very, very attractive Strider (played by Viggo Mortensen), alerted our Hobbits that they already ate breakfast. Oh no Mr. Strider, they were referring to 2nd Breakfast, and that is the meal we prepared tonight for our movie festivities.

We also welcomed Dave into the crazy, sometimes creepy world of Movie Night in which everything that went wrong with the night was obviously his fault.

Points:
Movie: 9/10 – Minus one point for the DVD almost skipping – (Dave!)
Food: 10/10 – Amazing
Luxor Taxi: 4/10 – Damn those Jack Johnson fans leaving Outside Lands Fest

Reviews:

•Kristen: Everything you could want in a film: hobbits and elves, dwarves and eye candy, scary ringwraiths and dudes with swords. it kind of makes you want to read the book.

•AQM: Did anyone have the rosemary ham scones?

•Emily: I love this move. For a lot of reasons. Partially because it involves men with swords. But mainly because every time I watch it, I find it an astounding example of thoughtfulness in design. Every detail, from what a characters fingernails look like to lighting and color palette between different locations, is incredibly well considered and crafted. It makes me happy.

•Chris: The best movie you will ever watch, ever. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll get lost with the hobbits throughout their crazy adventures.

•Dave: This movie is hands down one of the most impressive pieces of film for anyone who has an appreciation for great storytelling. There are touching moments that bring some to tears, as well as startling moments that bring some into each others laps. It’s also an inspiring movie for how any meeting should be held.

The Recap:
We dined on orange delights. We laughed a little. We were mostly disturbed. We welcomed Mike. We said farewell to Art.

Some babies cried. Some glasses broke. Some food was red. Some wine was drunk. Some one was drunk. And it was me.

Another great Sunday Night.

Superlatives:

•favorite quote: Cabbages, knickers, It hasn't got A BEAK!
•favorite snack: it was orange
•favorite moment in real life: watching everyone’s facial expressions
•favorite moment in the movie: obviously the rapid motion threesome.

Reviews:

•Kristen: i felt sick the whole time watching it. and i still liked it. the message i took away: conditioning is bad and no matter what you do - you can't change a man. (i already knew the last part though.)

•AQM: Alex has the most fantastic bed spread I have seen in some time and his mother is a character that I truly adore. I imagine her life as a vivid landscape of colorful experiments and lots of pharmaceuticals. But let’s be serious here. This film gets in your head from every angle – it’s beautiful, it’s disturbing, it’s erotic, and it’s completely fucked up. You love to hate Alex and then slowly, you begin to hate that you love him. Very tricky. Very delicious… Mr. Kubrik, well done.

•Emily: Lorem Ipsum FPO

•Chris: A very unique movie set in a very dystopian place where rooms are lavishly decorated in the wildest colors and patterns you could imagine. A very fun movie to watch, yet quite disturbing and intense at the same time. Kubrick FTW.

•Art: I don’t think Art is going to be getting around to a review considering he’s off to Germany

•Mike: A Clockwork Orange is classic Kubrik from set design to cinematography to costume design to film score and sound design; translation: beautiful film. The story's a peculiar one, though. I was particularly interested in the characters in this future dystopian world. The protagonist, Alex, is bad and mean. His core values are fundamentally deplorable. But looking at the rest of the characters, one is left feeling that no one in this world is particularly virtuous. It's a mixture of power-hungry and controlling scientists, doctors, government officials, and hoodlums and passive, purposeless individuals.

You're forced to empathize with Alex because there's no one else to really care about. His violent acts and visions are romanticized against a backdrop of poetic narration; so much that you feel you're witnessing a musical, graceful dance. One to be admired. To me, this is what becomes truly compelling about the film -- the strong dichotomy present in the framing of beauty within the most heinous acts and circumstances. A truly amazing film.

The Recap:
Our spread took center stage with an enormous amount of perfectly themed British fare including spotted dick (which is cooked in a can), fish and chips (of the sweet potato variety), and an array of English sweets and treats (everyone needs more cream. If the food wasn’t enough to make this evening one of the most memorable, than take a moment to recall Kristen’s most eloquent interpretation of a dramatic flailing finish, or her rendition of the scottmans training on the hill and you will soon agree that Movie Night 12 was a night to remember.

Superlatives:
•favorite quote: &quot;I'm forever in pursuit and I don't even know what I am chasing.&quot; – Abrahams
•favorite quote: “that sounds clever. I don’t know what it means”
•favorite snack: the devon shire cream!

Reviews:

•Kristen: the race montages make you want to grab some 80s music, strap on your shoes and just kill it. also, i feel somewhat akin to Liddell after watching his version of training - running in the Scottish mountainside in his everyday clothing. it kind of reminds me of me running for the bus every morning.

•AQM: Yadda yadda, im glad they both won, but seriously, Liddell and Abrahams should have had a race at the end.

•Emily: While training for my marathon, I always imagined crossing the finish line with graceful composure and a serene mind and body. I am obviously a total amateur and fool. From here on out, I will be practicing the correct victory facial expression, as demonstrated in Chariots of Fire (see below) Thanks Munson and Eric Liddell.

•Chris: An epic 80’s movie about the 1924 Olympic games, complete with a synthesizer soundtrack and the well known beach running scene.

•Art: The food and the beer was plentiful and the entertainment was entertaining (yay for that!). If only certain someones could crunch a little more quietly...PS Totally loved the outfits!

The Recap:
Wow. What can I say? We laughed a little, we were confused a little, and we were most perplexed when our new Russian friend tried to poach movie night regulars with a drag show in the castro. WTF Art. WTF. Emily was almost late to her own house with an epic 15 mile run. She was sweaty, she was gross and she made us wait. But we love her just the same. Thankfully, she made it through the whole movie without falling asleep.

Superlatives:

Best Dream Sequence: Any with the big hands or that involved his co-workers (was that all of them?)

Best Quotes:
Isn't life already any in 3D?
No, yeah but, come on

I like your boobs. They are friendly and unpretentious.

Reviews:

Chris : This move is like watching children play, sometimes it doesn’t make sense and is a bit confusing, but the children get it, and suddenly everything is wonderful and bright.

Art: I've got nothing except that my Newcastle was pretty good...

Kristen : Quirky and sweet, funny and sad. i love a boy who builds one second time machines, performs surgery on stuffed horses and views life in 3D.

AQM: I laughed a hell of a lot during this movie and then I went home and made a one second time machine. One second time machine.

Emily: Way better than a drag queen remake of whatever Art went to see (no one can remember)

The Recap:

Another aqm Netflix FAIL. The intended movie for the evening was Me and You and Everyone we Know, but because allison did not send her old netflix in on time (at all), we had to watch a film already in her collection - pans labyrinth. now we are all depressed. of course, the absence of our movie crew staple, emily (who spent the weekend in LA), the abandonment of a movie crew newbie (who shall remain nameless), and the incredibly over hyperactive pup (who forced caitlin to lock herself in her room) were all equally as depressing as the film itself. on the up side, chris has officially gained movie host status since attending three consecutive movie nights. we look forward to his picks! and as always, pete remains to be seen but is surely participating in his own Open Source movie night where there are no rules.

Favorites:

Obviously the decedent feast was the most terrifyingly satisfying scene of the film.

Reviews:

aqm: though this was my second adventure with the ambiguously frightening fauna, my sentiment remains the same - it's a beautifully horrifying tale of &quot;survival by imagination&quot; that can only end in tragedy.

chris: Extremely beautiful, extremely depressing; I would recommend watching it more than once.

kristen: i am still in recovery ... and i've seen it twice. it wasn't until today that i learned that doug jones, the actor who plays the pale man, also played the part of the faun. he totally creeped me out. he is amazing. i was afraid to go home afterwards. kudos to the make up people.

The Recap:
technically there was a film, but this sunday proved to be a comedy of errors when for the second time, the chosen film, singles, could not be seen. this go around, allison forgot that munson is sans netflix making allison responsible for movie night picks. allison arrived sans movie and instead, little miss sunshine was chosen as default because kristen's roommate happened to have it. one day singles will show.

Kristen adds: movie night wasn't a total failure. I mean, Chris brought granola. I had the SBux treats. Sure, allison forgot the movie (again). But she totally redeemed herself by cracking the parental control code!

Favorite Quotes:
&quot;I'm madly in love with you and it's not because of your brains or your personality, it's because you're beautiful&quot;

Reviews:

Kristen: Little Miss Sunshine served as an excellent substitute for Singles. Way better than The Cutting Edge. Although I do love men in spandex. Anyhow, I would roadtrip with Grandpa and Dwayne any day. I'll even buy Grandpa's porn.

Chris: A heartwarmingly fun movie, filled with emotionally wrenching scenes, great music, hugely dynamic characters, and a happy ending.

Emily: Like a glimpse into my childhood.

AQM: I didn't know Emily was a happy bellied, wanna be baby beauty queen. and also pageant hosts are creepier than the pageants themselves. The Recap:

This Sunday could not have been any better filled with new friends, old friends and the same regulars that make movie night so charming each and every week. Our guest list jumped from 3 to 7 as the hosts managed to persuade beach goers to end their day with a movie and some pizza.

Superlatives:

-Best Guest: All the newbies! Especially since Emily and Kristen fell asleep.
-Best Themed Food Item: Only food itme: pizza.
-Funniest Moment: Crazy cat on the head. Crazy Emma.
-Most Surprising Moment: We're not even half way done?

Reviews:
Kristen: I thought it was going to be a love story. It wasn't. Marcello was annoying and needy and I don't know how he got all those chicks in the first place. The women were all crazy. Sidenote: Why were people hooking up at the brothel? It made me want to shower. I fell asleep at half-time. But snuggling with Em was nice.

AQM: I never understood why actor names were the same as character names. It tells me something. I am also confused by the giant sting ray.

Chris: Stuff Happens.

Pete: Pete doesn't feel he has to review movies because it's too much work. Plus, he's starting his own Open Source Movie Night without rules.

Emily: Emily got distracted by something else much more interesting than writing a review.

Host: aqm
food theme: spanish

The Recap:

Another Sunday, another movie watching experience – one filled with delicious foodstuffs, wonky English subtitles, and a lot of really bad sex. Y Tu Mama Tambien might not have been the best choice for three “frustrated” women as even the poorest of sex scenes was enough to incite a late night craving (reads: booty call) and very limited choices of men to “call”. A Note to our hosts: let’s refrain from the X rated set until proper relationships are in order.

Superlatives:

•Best Part of the Night: A warm welcome from the ever popular aqm’s house pup – Wrigley!
•Best Themed Food Item: Well, it wasn’t really themed, but the white chedder truffle oil popcorn was to die for.
•Best Quote: “Stop whacking off and learn how to properly make love to a woman”

Reviews:

•Kristen : I barely paid attention to the dialogue or storyline of the film. I wish I could comment on something like the writing or art direction, but I was distracted by all the (bad) sex. Whatever. I just want to make out.

•AQM: A little wild, a little fucked up, and a lot clear that we need to stick to films with a little less sex.

•Emily: Creepy-sexy.

The Recap:

This night could very well have been our last night in the ever-tumultuous land of Kristen’s apartment where the roommate tension is usually high and the echoing bathroom sound is often uncomfortable. We lucked out with a roommate-free landscape and managed to get the PS2 working despite the untimely absence of manly men.

Superlatives:

-Best Part of the Night: Starting an hour earlier! New 7:00 time is golden.
-Best Themed Food Item: Apple pie with strawberry ice cream a la mode... well played Emily!
-Best Quote(s):
1.“A Sheldon can do your income taxes, if you need a root canal, Sheldon's your man... but humpin' and pumpin' is not Sheldon's strong suit. It's the name. 'Do it to me Sheldon, you're an animal Sheldon, ride me big Shel-don.' Doesn't work.&quot;

2.&quot;I knew the way you know about a good melon.&quot;
-Most Annoying Moment: That damn PS2…
-Best Thing about Next Week: Maybe Jade, Maybe Britt? We love growing Movie Night!

Reviews:

•Kristen : I learned everything I needed to know about relationships from this film the first time I saw it at age 12 when I was still in braces and didn't need a bra. And to be honest, not much has changed. The writing in this film is genius and why I am still laughing years later. Billy Crystal is almost attractive in the film until you see him powerwalking in spandex - he's kind of a skinny, high school version of Mark Ruffalo. And Meg Ryan is so damn cute I think she is the reason I became a journalist in the first place. The exchange about Sheldon is so true and why one should never date a man with a wimpy name. And after seeing the movie about a dozen times, it still gives me hope. For instance, now I know that anytime certain people aren't calling me it's because there is a third scenario I never thought of: he desperately wants to talk to me but is trapped underneath something heavy. Awesome.

•AQM: Although I am not as eloquently well spoken as our resident writer, Kristen Munson, I will say that I may be bitter and disgruntled, but this is one hell of a film.

•Emily: Like an old pair of sweatpants with elastic in the ankles. Old and unfashionable at times, but always warm and enjoyable.

The Recap

Well another Sunday Night came and went filled with the ever popular staples: too much food, repeated exclamations of movie night love, and chit chat. This week was brought to you by AQM where we watched Delicatessen, a French love story about people eating people.

Here are some 06.15 Superlatives:

-Best Guest: This one is easy…obviously Wrigley, the spunky boston terrier.
-Best Themed Food Item: Tiramisu with Lady Fingers – French AND Cannibalistic. Impressive.
-Funniest Moment: The realization that we had an ongodly amount of food for 3 people AND the failed suicide attempts by our voice-in-head hearing heroine.
-Most Surprising Moment: Who knew raspberry blintzes from Trader Joes would be so damn delicious!
-Best Thing about Next Week: Hopefully Jade will join us!

Now for the Reviews:

-AQM: I loved this movie – it was dark, beautifully shot, and did a little number on my heart strings – until I had to look away because of the hacking of humans. Clowns scare me.

-Kristen : Either we’re a bunch of sickos, or somehow laughing while watching a film about cannibalistic Frenchmen and a woman’s repeatedly unsuccessful attempts to commit suicide is no longer taboo? Although I will admit – I couldn’t scarf down my hotdogs with the same enthusiasm as usual. Normally I can throw down at least two or three of those suckers. Maybe I am still recovering from Grizzly Man last week? Anyhow, movie night rocked. I love the plastic costumes.

-Emily: I give it two non-mutilated thumbs up. Great art direction and cast. I laughed, I screamed, I fell in love. Oh yes, and I became a vegetarian.

<p>My friends and I watch a movie together every Sunday night. Each week, a different host picks a movie and asks the guests to bring a food related to the film. When everyone arrives, we set up the food items in a nice little arrangement and snap a photo. It all began on April 13, 2008 and continues to occur weekly to this day. The members of Movie Night are managed through Facebook where there is also a complete archive of every event. As of this post we&#8217;ve seen 71 movies!</p>
